I felt like a couple lines were forced, such as 'Grindelwald doesn't value that which is simple.' I get that it was a recall to what Dumbledore says about Voldemort to Harry, but I felt like there was no motivation for that line since Newt would've had no reason to say this based on Newt's experiences with Grindelwald. I am super interested to learn more about how Nagini's story will her to being the right hand man of Voldemort. I liked the expositions of new characters.

I liked the tone, I liked the pacing and the backstories.

This movie was definitely more in line with the spirit of where the series is heading-the first Fantastic Beasts was a little fluffy. Still, the movie's often dark tone and battle standoffs may be too much for the youngest Potterheads. And the story's themes of courage and teamwork are clear. These characters may be adults, but other than their tendency to get into danger and magical duels, they're pretty tame: There's just a little bit of (butter) beer drinking and cuddling and a noticeable lack of cursing (Ron Weasley swore more than they do!). When dangerous wizard Gellert Grindelwald ( Johnny Depp) escapes and rallies his followers, a much younger Professor Dumbledore ( Jude Law) asks Newt to intervene. Set in 1927, the movie still centers on magizoologist and Hogwarts textbook author Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne). It has even more violence than the previous movie did, with character deaths, injuries, magical battles, and lots of mass destruction. Parents need to know that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - the second movie in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themseries (all of which are prequels to the Harry Potter films) - is quite intense.
